Hello beekeepers!
Our research group at Bremen University is planning to run a global honey bee investigation. This project will systematically address bee diseases, parasites, the influene of climate and weather and aims to contribute to bee health. The future project will be run in close collaboration with beekeepers who can contribute best a lot of "practical" knowledge about bees and beekeeping as well as the harvest of honey bee products.
At this very first step, I am looking for information about russian bee keeping organisations and also universities in russia that have a strong trank record in biological or agricultural honey bee research. This might hhalp a lot to find russian partners for a collaboration.
Your help is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
tox (researcher and beekeeper)
Exactly, this is what tox can mean. I got this name a long time ago :-) Can anyone name the most important russian beekeeping organisations for me? Are russian beekeepers organzied in clubs, societies, associations,...? Moreover, what russian universities (no matter what scientific disciplin: biology, agriculture, etc.) are famous for their honey bee research? Finally, I am interested in russian traditional (historic) beekeeping techniques.
Thanks a lot and best regards!
Just a try to translate this message to russian (I cannot really control if this is correct - I don't speak much russian):
I added more information to my profile and will add more in future. I short: My name is Thorsten Kluss, I am a honey bee researcher at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroinformatics, University of Bremen, Germany (http://www.cognitive-neuroinformatics.com/en/). This research is fully non-profit work - dedicated to the understanding of honey bee, life, behavior, health and biology . One of my hobbies has been beekeeping, of course. This private passion inspired me to initiate bee related research projects.

I am still not sure, if the automatic tranlsation works well. I don't mean to be rude (if it appears like this - if not, it worked well)
Anyone who can help me? I am still looking for information: Which russian beekeeping organisations exist? Are russian beekeepers organzied in clubs, societies, associations,...? Moreover, what russian universities (no matter what scientific disciplin: biology, agriculture, etc.) are known for their honey bee research?
Your help is very musch appreciated!

Thank you so much! This information about "Академия пчеловодства и совр. биотехнологий" helps a lot. The Пчеловод.ИНФО - 2018 sounds interesting, too, but I will not be able to be there this year, unfortunately. I will attend the Пчеловод.ИНФО congress in 2019 if everthing goes well.
Thanks a lot!

Scientifically I can imagine many things I want to know about bees: Many questions are about the varroa situation, other diseases, epidemiology and new ways of treatment. Moreover, there are many things unknown are many thing not proven. I am a curious person and bees are fascinating insects, still bearing fascinating facets to be discovered. Other scientific questions do not only concern bees but insects in general - and we are able to investigate them with the help of bees, because they always come "home" where we can study them after a long trip flying outside.
On the practical "beekeeping" side, am want to know many things from our sensor data: to detect swarming, to know if the queen is alive, if there is brood, how well the colony grows, whether they still have, ....
I assume, this research is meaningful for human life on several levels: On the beekeeping side, any further knowledge might help beekeepers to work better, easier, more efficient, or more "bee friendly". Am don't think this is generally necessary (actually, my private hobby is to learn about traditional or historic beekeeping techniques all around the world) but the result offer a chance to rethink beekeeping for anyone who wants to. On the mathematical (computer science) level, we invent a lot of algorhithms how to fuse relatively simple sensor data in order to understand very complex biological situations. On the biological level, we may help honeybees and insects in general to have an easier life. In fact insects are dieing all around the world in an alarming extent. And this is a direct threat for humanity - insects are the very basis of the food chain (as food for larger predators) and play a crucial role as pollinators. Thus they are the basis for the humanities food supply.

Google.translate unfortunately does not give me a good translation of this last aspect (neither to german nor to english). Could you please reformulate it - then I have the chance to understand and to reply to it.
Greetings from Bremen!
Sorry, I couldn't write in this forum for a number of days.
Thank you very much indeed This is a very intersting website! I will definitely post questions and comments there!
@HOST (Thanks) and @Вок адур: In fact, this is a very interesting question. There is a lot of "common knowldge" among beekeepers about poor qualities of honeydew in winter (--> "animal" honey?) compared to flower honey. Controlled scientific experiments on this topic are rare.
Also, it would be interesting to compare the qualities of sugar syrup (saccharose) to pre-inverted syrup (fructose & glucose). It should be easier for the bees with the inverted sugars, since they have less work to do - but the bee are usually a little better than humans in doing bee-jobs. Thus, they might make "better" bee-inverted sugars from saccharose.
